The first
photograph was taken in 1942 and shows Pvt Adcock extreme right centre
row, whilst in the Royal West Kent Boxing Team.
Bill served with the 1st Battalion and saw his first action as part of
the BEF in 1940. |

The second
picture was taken later in the war somewhere in the Reichswalde forest,
and shows the Wiltshire's moving to the front on the back of Sherman
Tank's of the Nott's Yeomanry.
Pvt Adcock is seated upper far right and wears the distinctive leather
jerkin and carries a shovel slung across his back. |

Letter from
"the Wardrobe" in response to Alfie's research into his Fathers
wartime years. |
| |
|
Unfortunately Bill Adcock passed away some years ago, his son Alfie
recalls his Dad telling him how lucky he was to have come through the
whole experience relatively unscathed. He was one of only a handful from
his company to survive and so decimated was his unit that for a while at
least they were receiving Canadian replacements. |

|
The 4th
Wilts LHG are very grateful to Alfie and his family for sharing these
precious photographs and memories with us and for allowing their use on
this website.
"We would be pleased that my Dad would be mentioned",
"Our family would be only to pleased to help with keeping his memory &
many others alive in words & pictures".
